THE WELCOMING OF GUESTS
Southern Railway
Bluemont Rail Road Depot
In 1900 the Southern Railway came to the quaint farming community of Snickerville and changed the name to Bluemont, Virginia. The tracks crossed our acreage and the train brough agricultural goods east to the city and the city dwellers came west to enjoy scenic views, resort inn lodging, two dance halls, a movie house, ice cream parlor and to bask in the cool mountain air
The railroad later became the Washington & Old Dominion Railway. During this era, the Clerk of the United States Supreme Court, Cecil B. Hooe, purchased our farm to become a gentleman farmer and named the property Whitehall Farm. He built our Classic Revival Ballroom onto the Manor House to entertain his guests visiting from Washington DC and Alexandria. Subsequent owners continued the farming tradition and Whitehall Farm became the largest dairy farm enterprise in Loudoun County.
